Command discrimination is one of the most challenging obedience exercises—for dogs and handlers alike.
The dog is working at a distance, with little motion, around distractions with multiple layers of pressure. Dogs tend to either freeze—staring back at us but unable to respond—or flee by moving to escape the pressure.
The good news? We can change how the dog feels about the exercise.
In this workshop we’ll explore fun, thoughtful games designed to build clarity, confidence, and resilience in command discrimination while changing the dog’s emotional response to the exercise.
We’ll cover:
- games to use as you walk away from your dog
- strategies for when you turn and face your dog
- games to motivate clean, confident position changes
- creating a positive conditioned emotional response to the exercise
Whether you are in the beginning stage of teaching command discrimination or your dog is already competing, the games in this workshop will help build your dog’s confidence and resilience.
