Teaching Your Dog to Share
Certified Control Unleashed Instructor Kim Palermo will teach you about the Control Unleashed protocol called Voluntary Sharing, which allows your dog to have agency over sharing resources with others in a way that is fun, positive, and kind. Resources may include food, attention, toys, or anything else that your dog has big feelings over! This is a great skill for addressing resource guarding and can also be used to help a dog process general excitement around others. In this presentation, Kim demonstrates how to teach your dog a duration behavior that will turn into their "start button"—a voluntary behavior that cues YOU, the handler, to move on to the next step. Then you will learn the steps for teaching your dog how to use their start button to choose to share with others in a way that keeps them feeling safe, comfortable, and in control. Kim also discusses how to set up management strategies to ensure that both your dog and the helper animal are safe and happy during the entire process. Throughout the presentation you will enjoy multiple videos that demonstrate different uses of this method with a variety of different dogs, as well as other species!
A Look at Compulsive Behaviors
Do you have a companion animal who “obsessively” sucks their flank, spins in place, follows shadows, or does other odd, repetitive behaviors? If you do (or if you deal with animals like this in some other context, or if you’re just curious about what compulsive behavior is), this webinar is for you! Irith will discuss common compulsive behaviors she’s worked with. She’ll talk about the terminology used by experts to refer to this type of behavior. She also explain how to figure out if a behavior is indeed compulsive and decide whether – and how – to intervene. Real-life examples will help clarify the various options for addressing compulsive behavior. Ready to learn more about things animals can’t seem to stop doing? Sign up now!
From Stride to Stance
Have you ever wanted to understand what is, and is not good form? Or wanted to get better at recognising the different ways that your dog can move? Perhaps what is normal, and what is not? This webinar will outline the essential signs of correct posture and form in different positions, the different gait patterns, and discuss the potential biomechanics behind form in different stances and gaits. We will practice recognising good, and poor form, and then look at some practical solutions to improve these in a fitness context. This webinar would suit anyone who wants to get better at recognising form, and wants to use fitness to address issues in form.
